Model Developer

An organization that develops LLM weights via pretraining and/or post-training (for example fine-tuning, preference-based alignment, or distillation). The resulting models can be proprietary or open-weight.

Details

A model developer is distinct from an inference provider, which serves existing models via API, and from an application developer, which integrates models into end-user products. Model developers may distribute models directly as open-weight models and/or partner with an inference provider to serve them via API.
